Chasing Radiance: Outer Beauty Reaps What Inner Beauty Sows

Because true radiance starts within.

Though it was panned by several critics, I watched the movie Troy multiple times throughout my formative years. In my opinion, one of the most memorable scenes occurs when Briseis, a Trojan princess, is being held captive while Achilles admonishes her unwavering worship of the Greek gods. I’m (very roughly) paraphrasing, but to the best of my recollection he states that:

“[As mortals,] everything is more precious because we’re doomed.

You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.”

How that message registered in my teenage brain still persists to this day, its interpretation twofold: i.) our time on this earth is finite, and ii.) the concept of loveliness was not explicitly predicated on her physical appearance. Lovely could be synonymous with pretty, just not necessarily outwardly so.

An intention of Blithe Health is to serve a community of women who identify as women of intention; women who are committed to service and change, and aim to do some good while we’re here. Being well-intentioned and doing good contributes toward feeling pretty on the inside, because that is the prettiness that emanates.

Our strong focus on a foundation that places a premium on inner beauty is not to negate hair care, skin care, or physical appearance. This second phase of The Blithe Morning does focus on my journey toward more physical-appearance-based self-care- that might include expensive treatments, trendy gadgets, and experiencing new fitness programs. But I believe that any investment in the outer is just to enhance our inner foundation of peace, kindness, and compassion: these are the qualities that make you genuinely lovely to be around. People will almost experience your loveliness because it radiates from the inside out.

Inner radiance is the glow of impact, and impact is what women of intention should strive for. Daily.
